Square shoes are available for the foot of this spindle if you decide to put the hammered round end in the handrail and the square cut end into the step.  You typically drill a round, extra large installation hole to insert a square metal spindle into your round hole.. then a “shoe” or “foot” is used to cover the oversized installation holes.

 

This metal baluster is available with one or two decorations per spindle with the spacing as shown in the drawing to the left. It is most often combined with the plain square 1/2″ spindles in some alternating pattern, most often with two plain squares and one spoon-spindle per step as you see in the picture above, or 2 single spoon-spindles paired with one double spoon-spindle.
